Let's meet the Class, the Camera and the Tripod!

Week 1: Getting to know you, getting to know the camera and getting to know some of the rules of video making.

Now that we know a little bit about each other, let's take quick tour of the camera.
Let's quickly do a demonstration on setting up the tripod and mounting the camera on the tripod.

It's time to learn the basics of framing...Let's learn about the rule of thirds.

Now it's time to put what we have learned to practice. Let's take turns introducing one another on camera. Make sure to use the rule of thirds to properly frame up an interview shot. Ask your subject their name, what school they go to and one question about themselves (ask a question like..."What's your favorite sport? Your favorite movie?" or ask any other interesting question you can think of).

Week 1 Assignment: Come to class next week with a short video idea. Consider that the videos we will make will have to be shot in the building with members of this class. There are several different "genres" or types of videos. Some genres of videos include: music video, documentary, experimental, instructional, commercial and short movie. We will vote on the best three ideas and will eventually share them on Youtube where all the world and your families will be able to watch. You will make a "pitch" (a "pitch" means trying to convince the class to use your idea for a video) and will record your "pitches" on camera using a quality microphone; so come prepared with a few good reasons for us to pick your video.

Next week: Recording Quality Audio, Lighting and Premiere Elements Introduction.
